Field Recording
Field recording is one of the many aspects of filmmaking that I enjoy practising. Recording sounds yourself can add an extra layer of authenticity to your projects. Personally, I find it a rewarding practice; discovering interesting sounds in the city or nature is both relaxing and challenging. I incorporate these location recordings into both my own film projects and commissioned work.
Blackmagic Pyxis 6K Camera with Audio-Technica Stereo Mic and Tascam FR-AV2 Field Recorder
I also capture high-quality stereo field recordings while filming. I use an Audio-Technica stereo microphone in a Rycote blimp, feeding a Tascam FR-AV2 32-bit float recorder. This setup delivers rich ambient sound and professional-grade results, even when working solo. Timecode from the recorder is sent to the camera for sync in post. When I want to detach the mic and recorder from the rig, I use Deity TC-1 timecode boxes to maintain sync across devices.
